The National Archives Consortium's mission is to compete for grants enabling to conduct research, development and innovation projects (R+D+i) in the national archives.

The General Archive of the Nation of Colombia is a national public establishment responsible for:
Formulate, direct and control the archiving policy.
Coordinate the National Archives System.
Retrieve, store and disseminate the countrys documentary heritage and the custodian.
Serve the community and ensure the principles, rights and constitutional duties.
Its vision is that in 2019 the institution will be able to articulate, secure, distribute and expand the availability and access to all public records and heritage of the country, strengthening citizen participation and social control.
In accordance with the provisions of article 2 of Law 80 of 1989, the General Archive of the Nation has the following functions:
Establish, organize and direct the National Archives System in order to plan and coordinate the archival function in the entire nation, safeguard the countrys documentary heritage and make it serve the community.
Set policies and issue regulations necessary to organize the conservation and proper use of documentary heritage of the Nation, in accordance with the plans and programs on the subject adopted by the Board of Directors, Directors Council today.
Select, organize, preserve and disseminate the documentary heritage which includes the Archive of the Nation, as well as to be entrusted in custody.
Formulate, direct, coordinate and monitor national archive policy according to the National Development Plan and the economic, social, cultural, scientific and technological aspects of the archives that are part of the National Archives.
Promote the organization and strengthening of the archives of national, departmental, intendancy, curatorial, municipal and district to organize the effectiveness of state management and conservation of documentary heritage and to support the private archives of particular cultural or historical importance.
Establish relationships and partnerships with educational, cultural, research and foreign archives.
