The Association is registered in the province of Santiago, Metropolitan Region. Its members are preferably those who serve in public and private archives, libraries and documentation centers of the various agencies of the state, municipalities, non-governmental, ecclesiastical, cultural and related corporations, and those identified as archivist profession.
The Association for Civil Rights is a non-governmental, nonpartisan and nonprofit founded in 1995 with the aim of contributing to strengthening legal and institutional culture that ensures the fundamental rights of individuals, based on respect for the Constitution and democratic values.

The GAN is the main archive of the Dominican Republic. In the GAN are kept documents dating from the founding of the Republic and other inherited from the colonial era, which form a significant part Dominican documentary heritage. It has the dual function of being intermediate archive and historical archive of the public goverment. Moreover, as general archive, it is for the protection of all types of public and private documents, which are interesting for the national cultural and the historical memory.
The GAN is a national public establishment responsible for: Formulate, direct and control the archiving policy; Coordinate the National Archives System; Retrieve, store and disseminate the countrys documentary heritage and the custodian; Serve the community and ensure the principles, rights and constitutional duties. Its vision is that in 2019 the institution will be able to articulate, secure, distribute and expand the availability and access to all public records and heritage of the country, strengthening citizen participation and social control.
Its principal mission is to rescue and protect the historical documentary heritage using for that archiving criterias which support the documentary investigation, making fulfill the essential purposes contemplated.
