International Award for the
social development of the information

Aware that the information carries a key role in the development of our democratic societies, the Documentation Sciences Foundation announces an International Award to recognize the work of the units more socially engaged, especially among the disadvantaged in access to and use of information.

OBJETIVE

1 - The Documentation Sciences Foundation convenes its International Award, in its first edition, to acknowledge the work of information units (Archives, Libraries, Museums and Documentation Center) in the development of social change since the information and knowledge.

PARTICIPANTS

2- Can participate any information unit (Archives, Library, Documentation Center, Museum) which in 2008-2009 did any activity related to the information recorded in any medium to create changes in the Society, especially among the poorest of the same.

3- It is not possible to send more than one nomination for every information unit.

DOCUMENTS TO SUBMIT

4 - The documentation will be submitted in writing and in Spanish, English or Portuguese.

5 - The basic documentation should include:

Letter of application to participate, signed and stamped by the highest authority of the information unit.

Photocopy of D.N.I. or identity card of the highest authority of the information unit who signs the letter of request.

Memory of the information unit that includes all the elements necessary for a full evaluation of its goals, its organizational structure, resources, services and products.

Detailed report of the activity has taken place in 2008 and it involves a social improvement from the information, especially the most deprived of it.

It is possible to attach supporting material such as photographs, newspaper clippings or audio-visual.

The documents submitted will become part of the Documentation Center of the Foundation, and will not be returned under any circumstances.

6- Nominations should be sent by traditional mail or courier no later than September 30 2009, addressed to the Documentation Sciences Foundation in Spain.

7- Nominations received after that date won't be considered.

8- The Foundation, or the Jury in its name, will not consider applications that do not meet these requirements, or not provide the documentation required in the formats accepted.

AWARD

9- There is only one award with a strength of 3000 euros, plus the delivery of a diploma.

10 - The jury may also give special mention to those activities which have not obtained the award. They will be recognized with a diploma.

11- The award will be shipped in the acts of the WORLD MEETING OF INFORMATION AND HUMAN RIGHTS which will be held in Spain.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE BASES

12 - The presentation implies full acceptance of each and every one of these rules.

Nominations should be received no later than September 30, 2009. (Please note that this is a strict deadline date.) Nominations received after that date won't be considered.

There is only one award with a strength of 3000 euros, plus the delivery of a diploma.

The award will be shipped in the acts of the World Meeting of Information and Human Rigts which will be held in Spain 2010.
